When the cameras come live, we open to a studio set where there are two leather chairs placed across from each other. Between the two chairs sits a wooden table where two empty glasses and a pitcher full of ice water. The camera zooms in on the chair on the right-hand side when UPRISING senior backstage interviewer Luis Montes walks over and takes a seat. He has a small microphone attached to the lapel of his blazer. He has a set of index cards in his hand while he makes himself comfortable. Once everything is set, the man behind the camera begins recording.
LUIS MONTES
Ladies and gentlemen, I am Luis Montes and I have the pleasure of coming to you today for a special sit-down interview. My guest is a member of the UPRISING roster, she is a member of The Kingdom faction, and she’ll be competing in the main event of Revolution 2 on Wednesday night. Please join me in welcoming Madison Carter.
Luis gestures to his left as the camera pans over to show Madison Carter seated in the chair across from the senior interviewer. Her hair cascades over one of her shoulders and she has one of her legs crossed over the other. Her FTW Championship belt is neatly folded on her lap and the gold plate is on display for the camera.
MADISON CARTER
It’s great to be here, Luis.
LUIS MONTES
The pleasure is all mine. Now, you requested this time and this sit-down interview here today. Do you want to explain why you decided to speak to me, and the world, in this fashion?
Madison nods her head and clears her throat before speaking.
MADISON CARTER
It’s quite simple, Luis. I wanted to do this sit-down interview because both our Silver State Champion and our World Champion decided to do a radio interview away from social media. They needed a safe space to run their narrative and take their shots. Thinking that it would just fly on by without any response to it.
LUIS MONTES
That indeed happened just the other day, but is that the only reason?
Madison smiles and shakes her head.
MADISON CARTER
The main reason I decided to do this here today and not save it for when Revolution 2 is airing live on Wednesday is because... the things I have to say here today? I know for a fact that they definitely would not have made the airwaves.
There was a sense of certainty in her voice.
MADISON CARTER
So, being here with you today, I don’t get the bullshit excuses from Jackson or the Board members about what they do and do not want to be said live on Revolution. I get to sit here and speak my mind without anyone trying to script or censor my responses.
Luis’ eyes widen a bit as he shuffles through the index cards in his hands.
LUIS MONTES
I don’t like to toot my own horn, but you came to the right person if you wanted to tell the cold hard truth to the people.
Madison doesn’t give a reaction at all to Montes trying to hype himself in front of the camera.
LUIS MONTES
So, let’s get right to it. You joined UPRISING in the middle of Season 3 and since then you’ve faced a variety of opponents. You’re a member of The Kingdom alongside Jace Parker Davidson, Samantha Tolson, and Trixie Decker.
Madison interjects.
MADISON CARTER
And Jezebel Jobs.
LUIS MONTES
Of course, quite a group of talent there, if I do say so myself. And unless people have been living under a rock, they know that The Kingdom has been going to war against the group known as The Aces. Which consists of both the Silver State Champion Serenity Holmes and the UPRISING World Champion Kevin Mears.
MADISON CARTER
That is correct.
LUIS MONTES
You’ve been very vocal about many things going on in UPRISING for the past few months. One of those things is The Aces faction and the other is the decisions being made by The Board of Directors here in UPRISING. Which of those issues would you like to begin with?
Madison takes a moment to think over the two choices and then relaxes back into her seat.
MADISON CARTER
We can start with the Board of Directors and the “booking decisions” that have been made in this company.
Luis leans forward and begins to pour some of the ice water into the glass in front of him. Once his glass is full, he begins to fill the glass sitting in front of Madison.
MADISON CARTER
As everyone should remember, it was Jace who joined UPRISING first because Samantha Tolson was here. It was the first time that the two of them had ever been in a promotion together at the same time. It only took a few weeks of competing here in UPRISING before Jace gave me a call and started to fill me in on how things operate in this company. It was shocking, to say the least, but both Jace and Samantha are like family to me. I decided to come to Reno to offer them support and to reignite my wrestling career. It did not take long to meet with Jackson and I signed my name on the dotted line to be a wrestler for UPRISING. Not just for my own, personal gain, but to be there for the people in my life.
LUIS MONTES
It was a supershow in Japan that you made your first appearance in UPRISING. It was after a Japanese deathmatch that took place between Ace Sky and Jace Parker Davidson.
MADISON CARTER
That’s exactly right, Luis. Jace is a lot of things but he’s not stupid. Jace had rattled a few cages here in UPRISING before he even wrestled his first match. They put himself against the former World Champion at the time, Molly Hatchet. Jace kicked down the door and defeated Molly clean right in the center of the ring and that one match shook the foundation of UPRISING. Molly Hatchet lost her ever-loving mind. Griffin Hawkins decided that he needed personal time away from the company because the man that he broke into the business with, had just handed the woman that beat him for the UPRISING World Championship, her ass, convincingly.
Luis raises his glass to his lips and takes a sip.
MADISON CARTER
That got the attention of everyone on the roster. Namely, Marisol Vilaro and her One Percent faction. Jace and Marisol had a certain hatred for each other long before he ever joined UPRISING. Now that he was here and making waves, naturally, Marisol didn’t like it one bit. Samantha was feuding with Chris Mosh, who was the World Champion at the time and Mosh had decided to disrespect Jace. So, you know how things like oil and water don't mix. We head to that event in Tokyo and Jace just knew that Marisol and her goons would be lurking somewhere just ready to strike. Sure enough, the moment that deathmatch was over here came Marisol and those two uppity bitches with the team name no one could ever pronounce. Three on one, they attacked Jace and then I ran down to the ring and chased them off.
LUIS MONTES
Not many people get to make a grand entrance into UPRISING like you did. Moving forward that put you in the crosshairs of Marisol and The One Percent. They would end up attacking you at the end of one of your matches too. However, there was someone else who had a grudge to settle with Marisol and The One Percent at the same time.
MADISON CARTER
Serenity Holmes.
The name of the current Silver State Champion came out of Madison's mouth with a generous amount of venom and disgust in her voice.
MADISON CARTER
At the time, I didn’t, really, know her, and she certainly didn’t know me. All I knew was that Samantha was fond of her and they had some kind of aunt-and-niece relationship. So, fuck yeah, I was rooting for Serenity to kick Marisol’s ass because it’s Marisol. She practically begs to have her ass kicked every single time that she opens her mouth.
LUIS MONTES
Would you go as far as to say that you were a fan of Serenity Holmes?
MADISON CARTER
She was someone that my friend considered family. A friend of a friend situation. I wasn’t a fan of Serenity, I don’t just dick-ride for people I don’t even know.
Madison runs the fingers on her free hand through her hair.
MADISON CARTER
She was doing her thing, so out of respect for Samantha. I sat back and waited my turn like a good girl. I let her go through her dumb fucking challenges against Marisol and her group. I focused on whatever I was given in the meantime. As you know, Serenity beat Marisol in a match where Marisol got to make up the rules as she went and “earned” herself a shot at the Silver State Championship belt.
LUIS MONTES
The fact that you just said earned the way you did is interesting. However, the match you're talking about is the infamous triple threat match where Kevin Mears defended the Silver State Championship belt against Serenity Holmes and Amy Santino.
MADISON CARTER
Bingo! Now it was already crazy as shit that Brad Jackson was showing obvious favoritism to Marisol and The One Percent. Marisol ends up being his illegitimate love child and the soap opera drama is in full effect. But then we rolled into another supershow where you have that triple threat match. And all anyone sees on television is that Serenity and Kevin are getting very close. Going into that match, where it’s supposed to be every person for themselves, Kevin and Serenity are double-teaming Amy Santino on social media.
LUIS MONTES
I’m personally surprised that Amy didn’t quit just because of the level of abuse that she was receiving from the two of them.
Madison nods her head and takes a sip from her glass of water.
MADISON CARTER
That is a very good point, but the match still needed to happen and you figure words can be slapped right back in someone’s face once the bell rings. But yet, the whole Serenity dry-humping Mears thing gets out of hand, and then they... literally... double-team Amy in the match itself. No effort was made by Mears to beat Serenity or by Serenity to beat Mears. They turned that match into a handicapped match and acted like that was perfectly okay. They work over Amy and then when it's time to pin her, Mears just hangs out in the corner and lets Serenity get the pin and win the title.
LUIS MONTES
I remember thinking that it was a... really... odd situation as I was watching it unfold.
MADISON CARTER
They didn’t even try to hide it or make it look halfway acceptable. He whole ass goes and puts the title around her waist and they celebrate in the middle of the ring. The man that was so proud to call himself "the longest-reign singles Champion in company history" had just traded off that belt and everything that came along with it for some barely legal piece of ass. But the world can’t know that Serenity is a whore, so, immediately after we find out that they are now suddenly in a relationship. And then that’s it. Everyone went along with their lives like that shit just didn’t happen. No punishment from Jackson, no ruling from the Board. Everything was just like "Ay good shit, you just took one of our only belts and turned it into currency for a one-night stand."
Luis shuffled through his index cards again and then leaned forward in his seat.
LUIS MONTES
That is a great walk down memory lane, but how does that tie into your issues with management and the booking decisions?
MADISON CARTER
My issues began because all the people in charge decided to do to fix the situation was granting Amy a rematch for the title she was screwed out of at the supershow. No ruling about how Kevin and Serenity voided any kind of clauses in the contract that it would be an actual triple threat match, not a handicap match. Nothing about the fact that Mears didn’t even try to retain the belt at all. This egomaniac pretty much decided that Serenity would be the next Champion over what Amy, management, or anyone else wanted.
Madison’s expression soured as she talked about the situation.
MADISON CARTER
And how did they punish Kevin Mears for stepping out of line in such a way? They let him run around shit-talking the company and management just because his contract was set to expire. He just ruined the prestige of the second-highest belt in the company and he had the nerve to talk about how this place would be nothing without him. That he deserved the big bucks for what he had accomplished and that he had demands that had to be met if he was going to continue to work here. DEMANDS!
LUIS MONTES
He even went on a tour going to different promotions for one-off appearances trying to cause something of a bidding war over his services.
MADISON CARTER
And not one person in power here in UPRISING told him to go fuck himself. He got his new contract and a written guaranteed shot at the UPRISING World Championship belt. In what fucking universe does it make sense to reward a guy that took a hot steaming shit on your second-highest Championship on worldwide television with a guaranteed shot at the top belt in the company?! When did losing a match lead to someone being given a guaranteed shot at a higher belt? That’s when I knew shit was fucked up beyond repair with how things were being run.
Madison took a breath and lowered her head to think about her next words before looking back over at Montes.
MADISON CARTER
We directly went from people like Molly Hatchet and Griffin Hawkins acting like they called the shots in this company to the favoritism shifting toward Marisol because she was Jackson’s blood. And now, it’s once again hopped over to Kevin Mears and The Aces. If I wanted to be in a company that was full of nonsense and bullshit politics then I would have stayed my ass back in the shitty Boroughs of New York City. I've had enough of that shit and that’s when I decided to start to speak up.
LUIS MONTES
Speaking up is a bit of an understatement in this situation. Do you feel as if voicing your opinion on things has helped?
MADISON CARTER
At the time? No, not at all. Look at what happened. I kept getting stuck in matches against Talia Skye. Serenity went on social media practically begging for someone to challenge her for the Silver State Championship belt. I stepped up immediately and staked my claim to that shot but what happened? "Management" decided that instead of giving me a shot or giving someone who has won a string of matches lately a shot, to determine a contender via a fucking fan poll on social media.
Madison starts to become very animated and a light tint of red begins to show on her face due to her blood starting to boil as she speaks.
MADISON CARTER
Fuck the fact that I stepped up and Serenity went ahead and accepted. Fuck the fact that I've been busting my ass here in this company and putting forth more effort than a majority of the other wrestlers on this roster. Let’s make a fucking poll where some bullshit and shenanigans can happen. Serenity loves to rub in my face the fact that the fans "picked" Summer over me. Yet, no one remembers that I was ahead in that poll by a significant margin but then at the eleventh hour, somehow, Summer Page gets a flood of votes, and boom she gets the title shot. Summer, who had done what really? She waited to leave The One Percent until it was already on life support. She got revenge on Chris Mosh for ditching her in a tag team match against The Kingdom. Then she got a shot at Samantha and the UPRISING World Championship belt and lost.
Madison turns her head and scoffs.
MADISON CARTER
Yeah, that... totally... screams worthy of yet another title shot immediately.
The sarcasm in that comment was beyond obvious.
MADISON CARTER
And the thing that pisses me off the most about it? They couldn't just come out and say "Hey, Summer is the #1 contender to the title." They couldn't stand there on their own decision and just give Summer the match or prove that she deserved the shot more than I did. No, they copped out and decided to play games with a fan poll that was easily manipulated to get the outcome they wanted. The thought was they would come out looking like they were innocent in the whole deal, but I fucking knew better. Everyone in The Kingdom knew better.
LUIS MONTES
It’s another situation that even at this point, I don’t understand the logic behind it. Kevin Mears had agreed to let Summer Page become a member of The Aces to replace…
Luis’ voice trails off as he tries to think of the name associated with the point he's trying to make.
MADISON CARTER
Exactly my point! No one even fucking remembers who Summer replaced as an Ace because the motherfuckers can’t keep a group of four together if their lives depended on it!
Montes chuckles a bit nervously.
LUIS MONTES
As I was saying, it was a confusing situation because Kevin and Serenity were in a relationship. However, Kevin and Summer used to be lovers, which did not sit well with Serenity.
MADISON CARTER
Has anyone ever stopped to think about how all that went down? Kevin and Summer out of nowhere decide to work together in a group that involves his jealous girlfriend. It came completely out of left field, but yet, magically, somehow, Summer ends up getting the shot at the Silver State Championship belt. Serenity gets to have a match and an easy win against her teammate and they hug it out at the end after bullshitting in the ring for about twenty minutes. Call me a hater, call me crazy, or whatever you want. But you can’t tell me that all of that is just a mere coincidence.
LUIS MONTES
I never looked at it that way. You have an interesting theory there.
MADISON CARTER
It’s not exactly rocket science. When it concerns Kevin Mears and his plans, it's pretty simple to connect the dots. So, yeah, I’ve been vocal about the bullshit happening right in front of my face and what does "Management" do about it? They left me off of the Solstice III card at the season three finale.
LUIS MONTES
Are you saying that they punished you for calling out what you felt was injustice?
Madison tilts her head to the side.
MADISON CARTER
You tell me, Luis. From the moment I debuted on a supershow in season 3, I had been booked on every other supershow. But suddenly, because I’m pointing out the obvious bias, I get forgotten on the card on the finale. I had been here, I had won matches, and yet they couldn’t find something for me. But guys like Bryan Ford got booked on the finale even though he hadn’t even had a match in the company yet. Show me the fucking logic in leaving me off the card for the finale, but booking people who act like they don't even work for this company. If that isn’t punishment for speaking the truth, then I don’t know what is.
Luis reaches up and adjusts his tie while taking a moment to breathe.
LUIS MONTES
You make points that are very hard to dispute. But I think we need to take a break here. Recharge and gather ourselves for the long run here. We’ll be right back with part two of this interview with The Princess of The Kingdom Madison Carter.
The camera stops recording as Luis and Madison begin talking amongst themselves before getting up and walking off of the stage.
