The Kingdom Training Facility
Denver, Colorado
Monday, October 9th, 2023
All classes inside The Kingdom training facility and wrestling school had gone on break to allow everyone to rest and refuel. The facility was quiet except for a faint noise near the back of the building. This piqued the curiosity of the facility’s owner Jace Parker Davidson. He went through the large complex looking to see who or what had decided to stay and work. Off in the distance, Jace noticed a figure standing in front of a heavy bag that hung from the ceiling. The person punched and kicked at the bag, letting out an aggressive groan with each strike.
As Jace approached closer, he recognized the individual who was taking her anger out on the bag. Madison Carter bounced in place as she continued to strike the heavy bag repeatedly. Her hair was tied up in a messy bun and there was sweat pouring down her face. However, she was focused and determined almost to a fault in her task. So much so, that she didn’t even notice Jace standing behind her observing the rage-filled endeavor. On and on, Madison kept pushing herself to keep striking, willing herself to hit the bag even harder with each blow. Jace finally cleared his throat to announce his presence as he walked into her line of vision.
“I haven’t seen you this angry since you first found out that I was sleeping with Samantha.” Jace quipped looking for a reaction but found none.
“There is a difference between anger and jealousy,” Madison grunted before hitting the bag more. “I was jealous because it felt like you had kicked me to the curb for Tolson. I felt like you found a hotter replacement for me. But this? Oh, this is definitely a lot of pent-up anger.”
Davidson stepped behind the heavy bag and gripped it with both hands to hold it still while Madison continued to try and destroy it.
“Pent-up anger?” Jace questioned out loud. “Is this a bottled-up feelings kind of thing or you need to get laid kind of thing?”
Madison cut her eyes in Jace’s direction. “I get laid plenty.” She replied in an offended manner. “This is something completely different.”
Jace narrowed his eyes a bit as she kept punishing the heavy bag.
“So, what did this heavy bag do to piss you off so badly?” Jace raised his eyebrow. “Cause just say the word and it’s out on the street and will never grace this facility ever again.”
“You’re fucking annoying.” Madison hissed.
“You being vague is what's annoying here.” Jace fired back. “Are you going to tell me what is eating at you or are you just going to keep beating the shit out of my equipment like someone on Twixxer who posts dumbass shit as cries for attention?”
Madison kicked the heavy bag as hard as she possibly could before letting out a blood-curdling scream. She raised her head to the sky before pacing around in front of the bag.
“What’s eating at me? You want to know what’s fucking eating at me?!” She shouted the rhetorical question. “EVERYTHING IS EATING AT ME!”
Madison stopped pacing and placed her hands on her hips. Davidson let go of the heavy bag and walked over to face her.
“Everything is a lot,” Jace commented. “With it being Spooky Season and all I thought you’d be beside yourself with excitement.”
“Yeah, Halloween is great and all but in the end? It’s just one fucking day out of the year.” Madison spun on her heels and began walking away. “That doesn’t fix the other 364 days of the goddamn year.”
Davidson followed behind her as she walked over to one of the wrestling rings.
“Yeah, still need more context to this whole thing.” Jace chimed in. “You don’t exactly seem like that type of person who is miserable the whole year round.”
“That’s because I’m not a whiny cunt who cries over spilled milk!” Madison leaned down and grabbed a water bottle out of her gym bag. “I’m not happy in the slightest bit over shit that has happened. I’m not happy about Season 3 of UPRISING nor am I happy about how Season 4 seems to be starting soon.”
“There is still a good deal of time before Season 4 officially kicks off.” Jace folded his arms over his chest. “And you’re booked in a match on the card. So, what is there to be so upset about?”
Madison took a gulp from the bottle and then choked it down. “What is there to be upset about?!” She twisted the cap back onto the bottle. “How about the fact that for the time I’ve been in this company no one has taken me seriously? How about the fact that I kept getting booked against shitty opponents like Walker or having my matches canceled because other people are whiny fucks? Or the fact that I worked my ass off to get a shot at the Silver State Championship just to get passed over by Gorgo because she disrespected Serenity’s dead mother?”
Davidson nods his head silently.
“How about the fact that I’ve been here doing everything asked of me and yet I get purposely left off the Solstice III? Even though I absolutely adore Trixie… why did she get booked on the season finale and given a title shot but they couldn’t find shit for me to do?! I had Amy Santino beaten… she didn’t beat me but now she’s carrying around a Championship belt that anyone with half a brain knows she doesn’t deserve.” The bottle began to creak and crinkle from the way she was squeezing it. “I get held back, I get kicked in the teeth, but Serenity? She gets layups just because. Not only did she get handed the Silver State Championship belt but it seems like she gets to face all her fucking buddies in the Aces whenever she wants instead of anyone who really wants to fight her.”
“I’m starting to understand…” Jace added.
“Do you?!” Madison spread her arms out wide. “You got booked on Solstice III. Samantha has main evented the last few shows but how many of us in The Kingdom ever got to wrestle her at a Super Show for the UPRISING World Championship? I surely did, you didn’t, and Trixie didn’t but if you’re an Ace? You get guaranteed title matches and get to pass around belts between each other like Marisol Vilaro at a massage parlor.”
“That was Season 3. This is Season 4 now.” Jace tried to reason with her. “New beginning here, some of the idiots are gone and you’ve got a match on Revolution.”
“Oh yeah, my match…hah.” Madison scoffs. “The Unity Division match I was booked in until Jezebel decided to skip town without telling any of us.”
“I’m your partner now,” Jace said confidently.
“And I fucking hate that you are!” Madison rubbed her hand over her face.
Jace uncrossed his arms and his face contorted in both anger and offense but Madison held her free hand into the air.
“I hate it because management seems to think that I need you or Jezebel or Samantha to hold my hand and come and rescue me. I got a match against the then Unity Champions and they decided I needed Serenity as a partner because she’s a ‘star’ or some shit.” Madison rolls her eyes. “I get told I can’t compete for a title because the Champions have a bug up their ass. So, what is it now? I get you as a partner but once again I have to face Talia fucking Skye!”
“Did you think this thing against The Aces was just going to go away?” Jace tilted his head.
“No, but fucking Christ there are other members for that God-Forsaken group other than Talia!” Madison roars. “I would love a match against Serenity. A match against Mears would be a fresh change of pace. Fuck, I’d even settle for fighting Summer at this point but no… it always has to be Talia. That old dried up and useless bitch couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket let alone a decent wrestling match. She needs to just fuck off and retire. She’s the weak link of that entire group but it seems I’m doomed to be her opponent forever.”
Madison sighs then turns around and pulls herself up to the apron of one of the rings. She sits there with her head hung low before speaking in a softer tone.
“No one knows what it’s like to want something and just be denied it outright for reasons that aren’t even valid.” She grips the bottle with both hands. “There is no reason why I shouldn’t be Unity Champion. There is no reason why I haven’t gotten a shot at Serenity’s Silver State Championship belt. Everyone else gets booked, gets title shots, and gets main event spots but I get treated like a fucking joke.”
Jace pulls himself up to the ring apron and sits down beside Madison.
“Yeah, it definitely sucks to feel like you’re not appreciated.” Jace paused for a moment. “But you have so many things to look forward to in your life. You have your gig at the Rabbit and I got to say, forget about Azurine. You should absolutely be the Head Doe. Then there is the LFL season that is about to start and not only are you one of my team’s Captains but you’re our starting quarterback.”
“Yeah…” Madison says under her breath. “All of that is great. I love working at the Rabbit and I can’t wait for the Dimes to win the Championship. It’s just… I really wanted to be booked for the Finale. I really wanted those title matches. Instead, I got to sit backstage or at home on my fucking thumbs just watching and waiting. It feels like so long since I got to wrestle. Everyone else just bites their tongue and accepts the manure that’s fed to them. Well, I’m tired of biting my fucking tongue.”
There is a moment of silence between the two of them.
“You know, a lot of this is my fault...” Jace confesses. Madison turned her head and looked at him in confusion. “No, it is. When you first signed with UPRISING, we had this take what we want and fuck everyone else mentality. We had Marisol fucking shook to the point she ended the One Percent because of us. Samantha began the UPRISING World Champion. The Kingdom was on the top of the world.”
Davidson pulled himself up to his feet on the apron.
“And then somewhere along the way, I lost that edge. That aggression.” Jace stares off into the distance of the facility. “I started to let things like respect and friendship sink in and I allowed that virus to get into me and to all of you. I lost to Kevin Mears because I respected him. I lost to Donovan Basch because of a friendship. Back earlier this year? All of us would have beaten the shit out of Mears and Basch for those things but none of us have even lifted a finger. We allowed Mears to walk into Solstice III untouched. We allowed people like Gorgo and others to bully themselves into our spots without putting up a fight. We let management get comfortable treating us like lesser talent.”
Madison just continues to sit there and places her head down again.
“Get up!” Jace yells.
“What?” Madison asks.
“I didn’t stutter, get off your ass!” Jace orders. “You want to be angry, you want to stop biting your tongue? Then let’s do something about it.”
Madison pulls herself up to her feet. “Like what?”
Davidson sits on the middle rope of the ring.
“Get inside, we’re going to start training.” Jace answers in a serious tone.
“Training for our match, now?” Madison chuckles. “Aren’t you the one that said we had a lot of time before Revolution?”
“I don’t care if there is another year before Revolution.” Jace barks. “You want to be respected and have what you deserve? Then you have to take it, WE have to take it.”
“I like the sound of that but we’re only facing Talia and her fuckboi.” Madison shook her head.
“I don’t give a fuck who it is.” Jace sneered. “You’ve beaten Talia before? Great. Are you tired of facing Talia? Good. Then at Revolution, we don’t just beat Talia… we embarrass Talia in the middle of the ring. We make an example of a member of The Aces and her B team boyfriend. No one gets underestimated anymore. No one gets less than our absolute best and worst inside or outside of the ring. No more dead weight, no more friendships, no more respect, and no more bullshit from management. We rule UPRISING like we’re meant to no matter who likes it or not.”
Madison stares at Jace who stares right back at her. Madison leans over and then steps through the ropes into the ring.
“I’m in the ring, so what are we waiting for?” Madison proclaims.
Davidson steps into the ring and the two begin to stretch and loosen up before hitting the canvas hard to work on their teamwork and chemistry.
