On Camera... Obviously
When the video begins, all we see is a gaming chair sat in what looks like a studio that you’d see if you were watching your favorite streamer on Twitch. There were lit up parts of the wall with posters and pictures of Kevin Mears in the background before the man in question took a seat in the chair to face the camera.
“This is a good enough place to talk, right?”
He said to no one in particular as he tucked his shirt down a bit and made himself comfortable before he began to speak.
“We got a lot to talk about, so grab the popcorn or whatever else you might need because there’s a few topics to discuss and I don’t feel like writing out a thousand tweets to cover it. Besides I’d probably get rate limited for doing it…thanks to the shithead who runs that platform. But that’s a whole other can of worms. So…last week was a pretty crazy one, wasn’t it? It started with me backing out of working with Hollywood Grapple Kingdom. Hopefully I don’t have to explain too much why I did that. The owner got exposed for being transphobic. End of.”
He shrugged his shoulders dismissively as he said it.
“I won’t work for anyone who hates someone for what they have no control over. To me, it’s the same as being a bigot or a racist. I have no respect for those kinds of people in any business, not just wrestling. And if you happen to be any of the above watching this, feel free to stop watching immediately and go fuck yourself since I doubt you’ll ever find anyone who’ll do it for you. I have no tolerance for that shit., I never will. Was I looking forward to getting started there? Sure, I had what I’d call my wish list for a contract. They were only too happy to grant me this and that. Did it suck having to give that up? Yeah, but I’d walk away from it again under the same circumstances. I have no regrets, it was the right thing to do. The fact that a vast majority of the roster did the same thing was further proof. My only regret is I didn’t know about it sooner than I did, and I could have saved myself a lot of flying back and forth to Los Angeles, not that I don’t love going there.”
He looks off for a moment as though he’s recalling something before he addresses the camera again.
“Oh yeah, I have a new contract with Uprising now. Shoutout to Kat Jones, who helped cross all the t’s and dot the i’s to make it happen. She’s a terrific agent, and managed to get me a few details I was wanting most. We can talk about what those were another time, but one of them was a guaranteed world title shot. And as you saw at the end of Vertigo, that’s precisely what I’m going to be getting. The fact is I didn’t need to have it put into writing, because there’s no one on the roster who deserves it more and has built the resume I have in just a year with the company. But there’s always some shady shit in the wrestling business, so it’s better to get it in writing. Fuck, you should do that with anyone honestly. If I were loaning money to a friend, I’d have them sign something too. I don’t do loans, just saying though. So I’ll be seeing Samantha soon. No, I’m not going to go in on her here. If you’ve followed me for any time at all, you probably know most of what I think about her. So I’ll save the rest as the time draws closer.”
He glances off camera again for a moment and then looks back.
“Pardon all the looking over there. I made a bullet point list of topics I wanted to cover on a whiteboard that you can’t see, so I’m just going down the list and making sure I didn’t leave anything out. Now let’s talk about what happened at Vertigo in my match with Jace Parker-Davidson. I’ve barely been on Twitter because the service is starting to irritate the piss out of me. So if he’s said something already, cool. This is not a response if he has, because like I say, I have no idea what’s been said. I just know what I’m going to say. And that is …I cheated to win.”
He held up his hands at that point.
“Did you expect me not to say I did? When have I told you a lie? I did, I got a handful of tights and scored the win. Can’t deny it. But before you all decide I have no talent or whatever, there’s two things I want you to take into consideration. Number one, I did nothing that he himself wouldn’t have done. Long before this whole thing was booked, he had basically said what goes on in the ring is totally separate from what goes on outside of it. He’s said he’d beat the hell out of his own girlfriend if he had to face her, that there was no line in the sand. Alright, cool. In the previous two meetings between members of the Kingdom and the Aces, there was no shortage of shady shit taking place. I didn’t call anyone out on it. I didn’t insult anyone on Twitter over it. Because I knew that was the rules of engagement when it came to the Kingdom, those are the rules they set. In prior cases like with Marisol, I found it hilarious honestly. Like I say, I knew everything in the ring was a separate animal from outside of it. Hell, he was even encouraging management to make that first match a handicap tag match because I was still sorting out a new contract. So I went into that match fully expecting that some more shady shit was likely to take place. If not by the Kingdom which he told to say out of it, by him on his own. I was expecting it, it didn’t happen….but I had no way of knowing it wouldn’t.”
Another pause as he seemed to be deciding on the wording he wanted to use.
“The thing is, though, nothing I said or did as it related to him going into that match was a front. When I said I knew it would be one of the toughest nights of my career, I meant it. It was. When I said he was one of the very few people I visited when they were in the hospital that are part of this business, I meant that. He was. See, I don’t do the mind games bullshit with people. I have no reason to try to fuck with anyone’s head or make them believe something that isn’t true. If it comes out of my mouth, you can fucking guarantee I meant it and it’s true to me. So you’re asking why did I do it then? Because that’s what I thought matches with anyone in the Kingdom were going to be, including him. In this case, it wasn’t. But I want you to look back at every match I’ve ever had in this company. Not once have you ever seen me do that before. I don’t grab tights. I don’t grab the ropes. I don’t have people run-in on matches for me, because I don’t need to do that. I’ve never needed to do that. I certainly won’t need to do it against Samantha….unless that’s how she does things during the match. Don’t get me wrong. If someone is going to try to fuck me over in the ring, all bets are off and that’s when you’ll see me returning the favor. In this case, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, waiting to see what was about to happen. I misjudged, maybe I was getting paranoid? It’s not important anymore, and besides… I just saw that I’ll be meeting Jace and Samantha in a tag match on the next Revolution now on Wednesday, July 26 in Reno.”
He holds up his phone to show the screen where the match is listed on the card before he continues.
“Not only that but I get to team up with Talia for the first time in the ring. I couldn’t ask for a better partner in someone who was half of the Unity Champions. Not only that but her team set the record for the longest tag reign in Uprising history…just like I did with the longest singles reign in company history…at least of titles that aren’t worthless now. I’m looking forward to that. I always make a big stink about how I hate to be put into tag matches. That doesn’t count when it’s one of the Aces. I trust those two women implicitly, and I’m positive that Talia and I will exhibit nothing but chemistry when the bell rings in the main event in Reno. When you have the tag team pedigree she does, there’s really not much more you could ask for honestly. So we’ll see what happens in Reno. Am I gonna spend two plus weeks shit talking these two? No, because I have no issues with them. They may not like me, but they wouldn’t be the first or the last in this sport. I know how good Jace is, and I started paying close attention to Samantha from the day I walked in here. I have an interesting fact I’ll share with everyone that she probably doesn’t know yet. But that’s for another time. Don’t worry, it’s not a bombshell or anything. I’ll leave those to Santino.”
That caused him to have a good laugh. He glanced back off camera again, supposedly towards the whiteboard.
“So this match is going to be quite the preview, I think, if she and I find ourselves in the ring together at any point in the match. I suspect that’s very likely to happen. Another round with the Aces and the Kingdom…the biggest money draws in this company, as far as I’m concerned. We’ll prove it again in Reno.”
He reaches forward and ends the stream.
