WHAT BRINGS YOU TO UPRISING?
"I was a rising star on Channel-101, the FUTURE of international professional wrestling and one of the hottest young stars to watch out for. But then the company I was wrestling for closed down without notice, and I wound up floating aimlessly back in the orbit of my training school...until I found the famous Vilaro System, and it helped me get my confidence back so I could take on the world again and once again show everybody why I'M the Man Of The Century. Marisol Vilaro helped ME better myself, and now I'm here in Uprising to help HER, help YOU." (Chad gives a big ol' DDP smile) "Whether you like it or not."
PERSONALITY OVERVIEW: If there's ONE word that can describe Chad Gilchrist, it's "entitlement." If there's TWO words, the second would be "bravado." Chad embodies both these concepts both impeccably and with relish. Chad thrives on making himself the center of attention, and his abrasive, self-serving personality draws people into his matches, hoping SOMETHING would happen to him, which usually did.
STRENGTHS:
- IN-RING: His amateur background gives him a solid technical base to build on, and his natural cockiness very quickly and easily manages to piss off his opponents (and catch them off-guard)...especially when that's his intent.
- OUT-OF-RING: Despite himself, Chad is incredibly charming and that combines with his conventional good looks to often successfully rally people to his cause.
WEAKNESSES:
- IN-RING: His frequent displays of arrogance leave him open to reversals and putting himself in vulnerable situations like getting cornered by teams. He also tends to shoot his mouth off more than is necessary, allowing his opponent to regain their momentum at inopportune times.
- OUT-OF-RING: Naturally, his charm and arrogance also make it very easy for people to get annoyed and angry at him, and his face, while handsome, is eminently punchable.
ALIGNMENT: Lawful Evil when the ref is paying attention, Chaotic Evil when they aren't.
WHY THEY'D BE CHEERED: Despite being generally reviled by crowds, he DOES manage to occasionally inspire cheers of support for his comebacks against overwheming odds in 1-against-many situations in matches (not so much outside of matches, of course).
WHY THEY'D BE BOOED: He's a dick. An arrogant dick. But worse yet, he's an arrogant dick who backs up his arrogance more often than not, and people HAAAAAAATE him for that. Failing that, he's absolutely willing to stoop to any depths, from something as simple as insulting a local sports team to something as violent as backstage ambushes that necessitate the victim being taken to a local medical facility.
REASONS TO COMPETE:
- GLORY: Your character is all about winning and cannot stand to lose. It sends them into a rage. They have to be the very best and they'll stop at nothing – for better or worse – to achieve that.
- MONEY IN THE BANK: Your character wants to be rich beyond their wildest dreams and sees wrestling (coupled with endorsements and celebrity status) as a means to achieve that.
- OTHER: Chad Gilchrist trusts the Vilaro System because it improved his outlook on life and wants YOU to better yourself the same way he did...whether you want to or not.
ATTITUDE TOWARDS TEAMWORK:
- INNER CIRCLE: Your character will team with a select few ONLY. Outside of that small circle, they'd be considered anti-social, but within their group, they're fiercely loyal.
-- In Uprising, Chad is sycophantically loyal to the cause of the Vilaro System, and will readily align himself with anybody Marisol trusts enough to team up with.
TENDENCY TO CHEAT:
- Often; Chad Gilchrist can wrestle straight matches (and frequently does), but absolutely loves taking shortcuts if it gives him a better chance of winning.
THEME SONG: "Layla" (Mashup Cover) - Liz Barak Project & Impulsia
VALET/MANAGER: Marisol Vilaro
WRESTLING EXPERIENCE: Debuted professionally in March 2007, started his training in January 2006 at the Michaelson Dojo alongside his frequent tag team partner over the years, Vic Schuysar. (Currently tours independently, teaming mainly with Schuysar and the team being managed by D. Brasco Cash, collectively known as "Currency Crew".)
WRESTLING STYLE: A mix of the following...
- THE SPORTS ENTERTAINER: Relies on their charisma and showmanship to mask their limited wrestling ability. They can fight, but not to the level of some of their more skilled peers.
-- Chad excels in the basics, and relies almost exclusively on them for most of the match. He's tried the flashy moves, and he knows better than to make them a regular part of his repertoire, saving a few for signatures and late-match set-ups for his finishes,
- THE TECHNICIAN: Relies on a catch-as-catch-can style of wrestling, featuring a variety of suplexes, submission holds and ground-based wrestling.
-- Chad's amateur background also gives him an edge when it comes to the ever GIF-able chain wrestling sequences, and his ability to see and counter moves as they happen has only gotten more refined in the past 10+ years.
- THE EXTREMIST: Relies on weaponry and their surroundings to abuse their opponents. Their primary objective, aside from victory, is to maim, bludgeon and incapacitate. Nothing is off-limits for this fighter.
-- Experience has made Chad increasingly impatient with long drawn-out matches (despite his conditioning and training helping him sustain himself during those), so he'll occasionally look for ways to incorporate weapons behind the referee's back...and sometimes will use them in front of them. Additionally, he's not a high-flyer, but he's definitely willing to put himself in high-risk situations where big bumps can happen.
MATCH TENDENCIES: Chad generally starts matches by flexing his technical muscle, but gets more and more aggravated and exasperated the longer a match goes on and usually devolves into brawling and even cheating.
BACKSTAGE TENDENCIES: Backstage, Chad Gilchrist HAS to be the focus, so if you're near him and not in awe of his very presence, he will make sure you are...and that you're going to better yourself with the Vilaro System, whether you want to or not.
FIGHT-ENDING STYLE:
Chad likes to mix all 3 of these, but will frequently bend the rules with things like pulling the opponent's tights during pins or leveraging himself on the ropes (or both).
- OUT-WRESTLING: Beats the opponent using their preferred wrestling style.
- CEREBRAL: Overcomes the opposition through intelligence, ingenuity and superior ring psychology.
- SUPERIOR STAMINA: Uses their superb conditioning to wait for the opponent to tire, before ending the fight on their terms.
IN-RING STRENGTHS:
- A Superior Grasp of the Basics...and of Limbs: Chad Gilchrist loves showing off that he can do common moves better than his opponents can, and will often chain takedowns into limb holds.
- Counters on Counters on Counters: He also loves countering moves, given how many common moves most wrestlers do in matches, and loves to punctuate those counters with disparaging taunts afterward, just to rub it in that he got you, diagonally. Pretty sneaky, Gilchrist.
IN-RING WEAKNESSES:
- Low-Flyer: Chad does NOT like doing top rope moves, and is surprisingly susceptible to OTHERS doing high-flying moves onto HIM.
- High-Risk, Higher Percentage of Failure: BECAUSE Chad doesn't like going to the top rope, the few times he does, he prays he hits the move, otherwise he's taking a BIG bump.
FINISHERS
1. Turn of the Century - Fireman's Carry Swingout to Side Effect
2. 21st Century Elbow Drop - Modified Bionic Elbow Drop to grounded opponent...Chad will very rarely try it from the top rope, but you bet he hits it whenever he does.
SIGNATURE MOVES
(Maximum of Five)
1. "Centennial Suplex" (Crossed-Arms-Behind-Back Northern Lights Suplex)
- The ultimate demonstration of Gilchrist's technical skill, he'll go for this every single match when the momemntum swings his way.
2. "Neo-Century Clutch" (Crossed-Arms Neckbreaker chained to Somersault Back-to-Back Crossed-Arms Clutch Submission)
- Another demonstration of Chad's mastery of tech, he maintains wrist control to show off that he's got a stronger grip than your ability to escape it.
3. The Y2G (Cattle Mutilation, opponent seated version)
- Chad will usually pivot to this (often from a Snapmare or sometimes from a Cobra-Clutch Leg-Sweep) from the Neo-Century Clutch if he wants to keep the opponent guessing.
4. Satellite Head Scissors Takedown (Triple-Spin Head Scissors)
- Chad Gilchrist may not be a high-flyer, but he IS rather agile, and will bust this out when he wants to show his agility off.
5. Reverse Capture Suplex (held for a pin)
- Chad likes his "Suplays", and no Suplex better encapsulates his arrogance than the Reverse Capture Suplex. The look on his face when he actually wins matches with it is like that Edge pog-face meme.
COMMON MOVES
1. Torture Board Submission - 2-stage Mexican Surfboard to Romero Chinlock, he loves doing it after a wrestling takedown
2. Everest German Suplex[i/] - he also loves hitting a back-switch to chain to this move
3. High-Angle Back Drop - he likes to do THIS after ducking a Clothesline
4. Headlock Takeover to Headlock submission (this also starts a Chain Wrestling sequence against opponents who have a Chain Wrestling-based style/tendency)
5. Hooking Lariat Clothesline
6. Chop Block
7. Front Dropkick
8. Knee Stomp
9. Vertical Suplex
10. School-Boy Roll-Up Pin
