The story starts on the last day of Woodstock. August 18, 1969, in Bethel, New York at Woodstock 1969. 25-year-old Houston, Texas native Ian David Rabinovitch grew up with an interest in astronomy and astrophysics but has made his focus experimental physics met theoretical physicist and brassy Brooklynite Esther Mika Feldman who was 22 years old at the time. Both raised by strict Russian Jews and intellectuals, Ace and Esther are the opposite result of a tough upbringing that is stringent towards intellectualism. Ian admired her attitude, she was impressed with him fighting his insecurities to try to woo her, when she’s tougher than him as a person. They hit it off well and consummated their relationship that night. This led to the birth of their first child Arlo, named after Arlo Guthrie, born on May 4th, 1970. despite being personally a pacifist Arlo was a big fan of martial arts media and pro wrestling. Their middle child Ace was born on March 16th, 1983, who they soon discovered has the very high IQ of 190 making his name they chose very fitting. Arlo being 12 years old shared his interest in pro wrestling and martial arts with Ace, by the time Ace was around 2 years old he was obsessed with outer space and pro wrestling and martial arts. The final addition to the family is their identical twin brothers David “ Davey” and Ivan born on May 20th, 1985.
Ace did not have much of an idea of how to start pursuing his dreams , he was very lucky that his father had minor degrees but major interest since childhood in astronomy too, they could bond over using telescopes and building model rockets. In 1987 at four years old Ace always the epitome of energy began with soccer and gymnastics. Ace grew up undersized in Texas where they love everything big, luckily for him like football pro wrestling is one of the hotbed territories of pro wrestling. Ace began training in martial arts with Taekwondo in 1988 at five years old and amateur wrestling at 6 years old the following year. On his 10th birthday Ace achieved his first-degree black belt in Taekwondo .
The internet was in its infancy, you could find anything about any topic except pro wrestling. Backyard wrestling was getting popular and the teens Ace was communicating with on early message boards were ironically based in Texas themselves and not that far from him. He made his official debut in the backyard league/federation on May 8th 1993.
First, they used trampolines, as they put on underground local shows they used boxing rings and then self-made their own pro wrestling rings. Ace chose the surname Sky for the ring name. In 1994 at 11 years old he was able to skip junior and high school to attend the state college as not just a student but a professor’s assistant as well for astrophysics.
It was a good balance for a while, however Ace was one of the rare ones in his backyard wrestling community who desired to actually do it professionally and not just as a wild hobby. He told his parents he was set on running away to either Canada or Mexico to get trained, they calmed him down and they found the local federation in Galveston Texas, Galveston Championship Wrestling, they had a training program called Fight Zone that Ace procured his own funds for the tuition for by doing more chores around the house for allowance, mowing lawns and cleaning pools at neighbor’s homes and even tutoring their high school age kids for SAT prep. He had his final backyard match on September 1996.
Ace began training on January 20th 1997, despite being only 13 years old. Ace was a black sheep among older trainees but the main trainer/coach Mike , a 45 year old, 20 year local veteran liked Ace because he was so coachable due to his athletic background. Plus Ace loved doing stuff everyone else hated, bumping drills, even cleaning up the ring, setting it up, breaking it down, he did it all for free. Ace began to bond with Damian who is a couple years older, a couple inches taller and about 30-35 pounds heavier.
Damian was a tape trader and pretty much a human encyclopedia on Japanese and Mexican wrestling, however Damian was developing a gimmick of a masked wrestler , a luchador that is the epitome of insanity “ Locuro” and Locuro became Ace’s rival. Just a few months later when Ace was turning 14, GCW had gotten news that they were getting a cable access tv deal, they would tape on Thursday to Saturday and air at 4 am on Sundays. Unfortunately their only rule was their compliance with the strict state athletic commission who only gave pro wrestling licenses to people at 18 years of age youngest.
Hours before taping for the shows began Ace and Damian would sneak into the ring to train however Mike caught them quickly. He was not mad at them and allowed them to continue if they kept themselves away during filming hours for the show. The following year on Ace’s 15th birthday Mike got Ace and Damian an exhibition match in front of the state commission for their pro licenses. Three representatives watched them and at first they were laughing to each other about the size of Ace and Damian/Locuro however their jaws were literal dropped after watching them and they were licensed. Just 13 days later on the 29th Ace and Locuro made their pro debuts facing each other on the inaugural live taping of GCW’s cable-access show.
The following year in on November 1st 1999, they both appeared in the most popular wrestling insiders’ newsletter as top Texan talent to look out for, however on the day that newsletter hit the stands, Ace’s childhood nemesis J.T. Douglas broke his first story as a sports journalist revealing that Ace had been selling marijuana and magic mushrooms to students at college.
Since Ace was only 16 his punishment was that he was both fired and expelled from college and that was put on his academic record which would hinder his aspiration of working for NASA. Ace went full into pro wrestling, put his eggs all in that one basket. His parents were great about it, they just told him he had to accept whatever was dealt to him in the situation, they allowed him to come back home. Ace went back to his childhood bedroom with Davey and Ivan, to make some money he did all that stuff he did for the tuition, he did all those jobs from Monday to Wednesday
He would ride his Marvin The Martian designed skateboard from his home in Houston Texas to Galveston Championship Wrestling and Damian would drive him to wherever in the south west they were booked that weekend, they didn’t wrestle each other exclusively but their rivalry was still on-going. They wrestled all over the southwest in Arkansas, Louisiana , Oklahoma and Utah.
To put in perspective Ace had to travel 8 hours via skateboard from Houston to Galveston Texas, get driven from Texas to Oklahoma
From friends to foes, they would entertain Oklahoman audiences with diets of pop-tarts , fried onion burgers and bourbon with their techniques they studied from Japanese and Mexican wrestling tapes as Damian was a tape-trader with all the hook-ups at the time, in 1999 they’re giving a crazy competitive futuristic style of wrestling that is common place nowadays since the 2010’s in America. Mind you these were not the best rings to work in, Ace is impregnated with incredulous hindsight over how he avoided ring worm or HPB from those rings. In a high school gym, with no matting outside on a basketball court, doing springboard corkscrew planchas and diving moonsaults to the outside, fans evade just in time as he smashes his svelte teenage body through brown folding chairs . Their matches had this formula that never got boring, they started with catch wrestling sequences that was like watching collegiate level wrestling to a cocaine version of it, power rangers style hand to hand combat strike sequences to action best described as
Johnny Knoxville flavored cirque du soleil all in just 12 minutes, luckily, they were the opening match. They would watch the rest of the show and get back in Damian’s car as he is back to his normal self and he would drive to a motel and wrestleo ther matches against different opponents on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night.
Damian would drop Ace home at 5 in the morning, for Ace to sleep until 2 in the afternoon and pick his brothers up from school by 3 PM while his parents stayed at their science labs from 5 am to 7 PM. They would eat dinner together at 8, Ace would have black eyes and little bruises all over yet remain in this upbeat mood as they ate the brisket pot roast and peach cobbler for dessert, Ace did that for 5 months after wrestling in the Mountain states to continue his journey as an independent wrestler in the midwestern states starting in Chicago, flying there for 2 hours to get in his mobile studio 2000 Van he would live out of for 3 years and 7 months when he got his next big break as his first international tour in the UK and Europe for 2 months.
In that time that was his first time wrestling in an actually safe ring, well put together, it was not fancy but felt that way. Ace is still incredulous to this day how he never got ring worm or HPV from the shitty rings he wrestled in prior to this tour. He fit in well as his in ring style has always been more technical based than people expect. When he got home his life kept changing.
He spent just 12 days from Chicago back to his hometown in Houston, Texas to his parents house to say hello and goodbye again as he headed to work in Japan and debut there on January 8th 2005. Shedding his independent wrestler skin to this new butterfly of an international/ gaijin wrestler in Japan at just 21 and 9 months old.
He made a few appearances back in the US in the West Coast and by 25 he was hired by the top American federation , despite his good reputation continuing unlike many fans thought it was not his size that held him back in his six years there, it was that he had these minor injuries that we're slowing him down. He's 26 and his shoulders were in rough shape from a decade of destroying his body.
Going through a depressive state, he used mariujuana medicinally not for recreational purposes and it was fine for a while he could pay the fines and it was not that bad until dirt sheets started to pick up on it, ruining the image that federation incorrectly marketed Ace as.
They marketed Ace as a clean cut supehero type, Ace is way more deeper than that as a person which is tough to portray on television.
He's a hard nosed and disciplined martial artist and pro wrestler on one side, on the other side of his personality he's a modern hippie.
He's the guy a girl can bring home to her parents to impress but with that girlfriend they're going to be on his hammock smoking weed and expeirmenting with pyschadelics.
On a suspension/hiatus his 29th birthday came around and he got in a motorcycle accident which has permanatently destroyed his right foot.
After being fired, he went on a spiriutal retreat in the Peruvian jungle where he was admistenered legal pyschadelic-plant medicines by monks which gave him his spiriual rebirth , he claims it got him touch with his spirit animal of the jaguar making him half jaguar man and
he also claims it has given him super powers of superhuman speed and telekentic powers as well, however he is aware that does sound crazy to some, he believes it.
Since 2014 he's used of his mix of spiritual and philosophical views with his philosophies on martial arts, pro wrestling as he seeks enlightment. However these ideals often clash with his behaviors in his hedonistic life style making him come off a bit hypocritical.
In 2020 he became one of t the most requested, highest paid free agents. Ace never wrestled for fame or fortune, he figured he'd be too small to ever be famous in America. He has always aspired towards being like his idols, undersized but undeniable as elite in the craft.
There are many things people can and have in recent times pointed out. Ace has all this experience, all this recognition yet his win-loss record has not been on par with this success in the past three years. Ace has had his ups and downs the past year, developing a drinking problem from his partying antics from June to August of 2022 .
JD exposed him again as being hypocritical with his habits versus the shaman-warrior he portrays himself to be. Ace took full responsibility and got sober starting on October 1st 2022.
However in recent months he has been basically california sober, getting back to doing some pyschadelics and usage of THC, plus not really keeping up with his Buddhist regimes going back to his lifestyle as a straight polyamarous guy, he tries to keep it all under control but emotions with always get involved. The recent positive has been winning the UWL tag team championships on the 18th with Nick Danger, forming the tag team The Rising Ace's and getting shots at the television championships in two other promotions. With the writing on the wall though it looks like his chances at single's gold may be slipping from his grasp.
Ace is now 40 years old, he's wrestling for several promotions still as the top requested free agent, he lives not only in Houston close to his parents. He has a place in Reno Nevada, a place in the Bronx in NY and London England. Trying to focus all his attention on everyone he has to face, all his places he has to be. Nobody put him up to this and he is incredibly fortunate to live this crazy lifestyle.
Ace is quite conflicted on how he should respond on social media to stuff, however his mind, his body, it is all elsewhere. If he's going to relax he is going to be resting in his hotel room listening to Ram Dass or Carl Sagan audiobooks while meditating. Not talking trash with his opponents who have the free time to dilly-dally on social media. You can knock him for that, sure. His social media game is awful however that is not connected in any way to how he will do in the ring, you can play on Elon's message board meanwhile he is busy actually putting in the work of a pro wrestler. Traveling, training, eating correctly. You're texting him, he's a kicking the heavybag at each notification ding.
He's trying to apply THC cream on his foot that was destroyed by a mini-scooter 11 years ago. Ace is actually doing the stuff you have to do to prepare for matches.
