BRRRT BRRRT BRRRT BRRRT!
No matter how hard he tried to ignore it, Kevin Mears couldn’t stop his phone from slowly waking him up from a very deep slumber. Even putting it on silent the night before, the vibrations against the table were still enough to rouse him. He finally raised his head off the pillow and snatched his phone off the bedside table of his hotel suite.
“WHAT?! For fuck’s sake, do you know what time it is?!” He shouted into the phone. When he heard the answer, he raised his head up. “Hold on.”
“Alexa, what time is it?” He asked as the blue lighted glow of the Echo Dot pulsated before the voice answered him.
“It’s 3:18 PM. Have a good afternoon, Kevin.” Alexa answered before Kevin went back to the person on the phone.
“Fuck…” He said to no one in particular. “Yeah, I overslept. What have you got for me? I haven’t heard from you in a few days.” Kevin started to sit up and leaned back against his headboard. “Riiiiight. So, you got me a job with Uprising then? Did you get me the money I wanted?” His mood was beginning to change as he listened to the answer.
“You work there, so what took so fucking long to get this arranged? I was about to come pay a visit and take something else I wanted after I got you what you needed.” He told whoever was on the other end of the call. That’s how Kevin operated. It’d been that way for years. He found whatever someone needed, got it for them, and demanded one of three things in repayment. He loved working with people who had vices and addictions, he became the center of the world whenever they had to have something…and being the center of attention was his favorite place.
“I’ll keep it in mind next time you need me to get something and start putting a time limit on how long I’m willing to wait.” He shoved the cover off him before getting out of bed. “For now, we’re square on this deal. Let me know when you need another supply…and I’ll let you pick which of the three Ps you want to pay with.”
Kevin had surrounded his entire life around the three Ps, always requiring one or more of them in return for whatever the other person needed. The three Ps in his world were profit, power, and pussy. If none of them could be delivered, he had no interest in the potential buyer. He had operated out of the same hotel suite for the last 4 years, thanks to his parents owning a stake in the chain which allowed him to live rent free and the hotel staff still had to wait on him.
“Yeah yeah, I gotta hit the gym.” He didn’t wait for the caller to finish speaking before he ended the call. After all, the transaction was over and they didn’t have another need right now. It was a waste of his time at this point.
He took a seat at the table where his laptop was, and flipped it open to check his email. The sight of his new deal with Uprising awaiting his response to their offer made him smile. “Alexa!”
The blue light on the device started to glow once again.
“Compliment me.”
One of his pre-programmed responses followed from the device.
“You’re a magnificent Pagan god.” She answered.
“Damn straight.” He answered as he began to reply to the email.
