Late night meeting (off-cam)
It’s late at night at the Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nevada. Moonlight is cast through the window into the darkened room that houses the sleeping form of “The Raven” Matthew Knox, who just went through hell and came back at Solstice. He is sleeping, as peacefully as a man who has gone through what he has can. On the corner of the room a second set of breathing can be heard. A huge frame of a man sits in the corner, staring at the sleeping Raven. It’s none other than Supreme Machine. SuMa stands up and silently moves across the room, hovering over Knox like the grim reaper. He reaches forward to his throat, but just when you expect him to start throttling his rival, he instead grabs his shoulder and shakes it almost gently.
“Matt. Wake up. We need to talk” His voice was barely a whisper, lacking all of the sinister and threatening undertones it usually has. Something wasn’t right with the big man. Knox stirred slowly at first, fighting through the haze of trauma and narcotic alike. He tensed as he saw who hovered over him, and began to slide up while shoving the offending hand away.
“You? Alright fine we can do this right no-”
“Relax. I’m not here to fight you. I’m here to talk.” SuMa quickly interjected and stepped back a few steps and slumped against the wall, letting Knox sit up and look at him from the higher ground. “The beast is asleep finally. I don’t think I have much time but I needed to do this”
He blinked once, twice. His eyes adjusting to the dark. He knew the form before him well enough to know something was off. An investigative silence as he stared the man down, before speaking.
“Tom, then?”
SuMa nods quietly. “The damage you did, it allowed me to finally push him aside. I just needed you to know. I am here. Always. Passenger in my own body Matt. I can see and hear everything, but I can’t do anything. Only Jenny has managed to upset the beast long enough for me to assert momentary control in the last I don’t know… 15 years or so. But this won’t last. The beast won’t let this go you know. This… I don’t think this is the end”
SuMa sighed and stared at the ceiling. “Just… Matt. I don’t know if Jenny dropped the bomb yet, but you’re at risk too. You and… You and Ivy. Be careful. You don’t wanna end up like me. Jenny is similar to me too. But she… she has hers under control. It’s there but it has no power over her.” the tale of the siblings was coming from the scarred man like a dam had been opened. “The beast thats in here” he taps his temple. “I made it myself. Not intentionally. Not willingly. But I made it none the less. It took over and I was powerless to stop it. And you… Matt. You are risking the same path. For several reasons”
“Most recently, to fight you.” He answered with a hint of malice. He pushed the hateful feelings down though, eyes narrowing, “Tom if you can take control, if you created it...can’t you kill it? While it’s asleep? Bury it somewhere it can never rise from. Even if you have to fake it to make it I mean..” he trailed off, lost in his own words and sentiment. He found a tether though, eyebrow arching.
“What bomb? And what does any of this have to do with Ivy, outside of her guest appearance as your bait?”
SuMa, or rather, Tom. sighed again. “That’s for Jenny to tell. She’d gut me if I spoiled it. But as for your other question… I’ve tried. It’s stronger than me. You saw the picture of me before. I wanted to be a wrestler so much. So when I kept being booked in all these deathmatches, I didnt turn them down. But it wore me out. Scar after scar. Wound after wound. And I kept pushing the pain to the back of my head. To a place in my mind where I didn’t need to deal with it. All those negative emotions… all that pain and suffering. It empowered it. Until one day, when I got these…” he ran his finger over the chelsea grin on his face. “It broke free and took over. I’ve tried fighting it. Ever since day 1. But at best I can get is a truce. A momentary one. And the moment it thinks it has an opening… it comes again.” Suddenly SuMa winced as if he was in pain.
“He’s waking up again. I gotta go. Otherwise he’ll finish the job. Talk to Jenny Matt. she’ll explain what I meant. And… If we do end up fighting again, know that I won’t be the one doing it. And I’ll be cheering you.” SuMa got up to scamper out of the room. Knox sat up, looking after him. He found his voice but only enough to croak a second after Tom had disappeared. He waited for a brief, dark moment as his muscles tensed. Any moment he was sure, the monster would charge back in…
But nothing broke the silence, save the symphony of hospital equipment. He stewed a moment, before leaning over the side of the bed with a great effort and snatching his phone from the side table. He opened twitter, and sent out a simple “Ow.”..moments later, Jenny bit.
“Fine Tom...i’ll bite.” he mumbled before pressing the morphine button once more.
