Encounter… (off-cam)
March 12th
03:25
Las Vegas, Nevada
“You think this is smart? He must have contingency plans…”
The voice of Supreme Machine’s “human” side echoes in the dark of the night as the big man is hugging a corner to remain in the shadows. After the events of Revolution 7 and the humiliation Matt Knox laid upon SuMa by locking him in the freezer was still fresh in the minds of both the sides of the monsters personality. And that is why they were here, in the middle of the night in Las Vegas. For retribution.
“The raven has flown away from the nest. Left the hatchling unguarded. Vulnerable. He will learn that we are not to be trifled with... “ The gruffness of the “monster” sides voice was a stark contrast to the human side. Dripping with barely contained malice. “We will take that which he prizes and tear it apart… put blood on his hands and force him to come to us…”
SuMa is scanning his surroundings, moving from shadow to shadow. For a man his size he has an uncanny ability to remain unseen. But then again, when you’ve spent well over a decade hiding from the public eye, it becomes second nature. As he slowly stalks down the streets, his monologue is nigh-nonstop.
“Do we really have to do this? His kids are innocent. There must be another way.” The human-side of him spoke quietly. But he was immediately shut down harshly.
“Shut up weakling. The raven thinks he can mess with us. We will make him pay. There are no such things as innocents… just collateral damage…”
Slowly but surely SuMa advances through the city until he reaches his destination. The street that Knox had spent the preceding 2 weeks watching over while SuMa had been in Baltimore. With a small chuckle the monster begins to move towards the house in front of him, only to be stopped by a voice from around the corner, a female one.
“Dumb and ugly, didn’t you just win the genetic lottery.”
How long she’d been there seemed irrelevant at this stage, the almost disappointed smirk across Amber Ryan’s usually apathetic features were somehow far more stark in the limited light. Approaching, while keeping as much distance as possible, Amber’s drifted across the pavement softly, sneakers padding gently on the concrete.
Obligation was a heavy burden to bear on the best of days, but part of her was determined to uphold whatever lopsided agreement she’d stumbled into- maybe she didn’t expect SuMa to actually show, but she couldn’t deny that for some stupid reason… part of her wanted him to.Amber’s appearance caused SuMa to stop dead on his tracks. This hadn’t been part of his plan.
“Stay out of this little girl… it doesn’t concern you. Unless you really want to be another pool of blood in the Ravens hands…”
The monster had turned to face Amber, standing in a position ready to pounce. But he was hesitant. For all his disregard for the society’s rules, attention was one thing he didn’t want to attract. Amber scoffed briefly, shaking her head as he stare found the ground, she scuffed the toe of her sneaker idly against the edge almost out of distraction, but her words remained focussed on the looming figure before her.
“You know, you say that… a lot actually. Curious how that works, I’ve always found supposed monsters always talk way too much and never quite live up to expectations- see now I’m expecting a goddamn bloodbath and you’re barely gonna give me a bloody nose. I don’t have enough hours in the day to be disappointed…”
A smile creeps across her features, as the tension grows and her skin tingles slightly in the night air.
“Way I see it, you can just fuck right off back to the dark hole you crawled out of and forget all this spooky bullshit nonsense. Or, well, or you just fuck right off back to your damp, dark corner of this mould ridden business…”
SuMa stared a hole through Amber, her attitude coming off as a surprise. As he stood there, for an outside observer he might’ve looked like he had frozen. But on the inside there was a heated debate going as the two sides argued. But as always, the more prominent one won. A small chuckle emanated from SuMa’s lips.
“You really should pick your battles better little girl. We warned you. You want a bloodbath? Then that is what you will get…”
And just as he finishes the sentence he lunges forward, knocking Amber against a wall and grabbing her by the throat, lifting her into the air. SuMa meets her eyes and barks at her with a gruff voice.
“You need better friends…”
He follows this by headbutting Amber right in the face, a spurt of blood bursting out from the point of contact. His or hers, impossible to tell. As he reels out for a second hit, Amber knees him in the gut, causing his grip to loosen up and her to fall down. The monster takes a few steps back and growls.
“Feisty... “
Before Amber can react, SuMa charges again making a beeline for basically crushing her into a dark red splatter against the wall- Amber, perhaps dangerously, waits till the last second to move as SuMa crashes into the wall and stumbles back. Seizing opportunity, Amber starts to circle as the monster feels rattled, the harsh crack of a hard kick in the knee brings the monster down to one as her knee finds him right between the eyes.
It's not enough to topple the larger figure though, another strategic step back sends a kick reeling into the side of SuMa’s head and face causing him to snap around to the side as he lands on all fours.
As Amber tries to plot her next move, unsure whether to go for the kill or simply hope that perhaps the monster might simply take his leave- the light increases in the area as the front door of the house in question slowly opens, spilling across the otherwise darkened area around the figure of what could only be presumed as Knox’s endest daughter Hope.
Amber catches sight of the young girl a fraction of a second before SuMa lifts his head, her mind visibly scrambling for just anything to make sense…
“Stay inside- and don’t you dare answer the door to anyone that's not me or your Dad. You got it?”
Amber hoped she sounded more forceful and collected than she felt she did, her call crossing the yard and capturing Hope’s attention who quickly nods and slams the door- while SuMa snatches ahold of Amber’s previously injured right ankle. He yanks Amber off her feet and drops a knee on her chest. Pinning Amber down, SuMa leans right in and we see that her nose has been busted. The cold, coallike eyes of the masked freak scan Amber’s features and he speaks with a low voice.
“Stay down if you know what’s good for you little girl. That shout was both smart and foolish… You saved them. But at what cost?”
SuMa slaps her in the face and stands up, holding her arm and placing his boot on top of her face. The intention is clear, but he hesitates. After a short moment he growls and stamps his foot down, missing Amber’s face by a fraction of an inch. He lifts Amber up by the neck and leans right in.
“This was a warning. Steer clear of our business… or next time we won’t miss.”
Amber responds to his words by spitting at him, a reddish trickle landing right on SuMa’s face. The monster seems surprised at her show of defiance, but a noise from down the street snaps him out of his surprised state. He growls at Amber once more and lets go of her neck, causing her to land on the ground with a thud. SuMa looks around himself and after a short debate, takes off, blending into the shadows.
As he disappears and Amber gets her bearings, her throat already blemishing in purple and red and the blood trailing down into her back-t-shirt- she doesn’t quite know where he’s disappeared to but that doesn’t stop her murmuring after him.
“... Yeah, fuck off you bastard.”
