The following is from a radio interview from Fox Sports KPLY in Reno, Nevada with host Michael Proctor and special guest Kevin Mears.
Michael: We’re back from the break, and today I’m being joined on the phone by Uprising World Champion Kevin Mears who was just on the show about two weeks ago. He’s back today because tomorrow night at the Silver State Ballroom here in Reno at the first Unleashed of the new season, he makes his first defense of the Uprising World Championship against Eli Buchanan. Kev, welcome back.
Kevin: Glad to be back, Mike. Thanks for having me. You’re spot on about my first defense tomorrow night against Eli, looking forward to it.
Michael; Before I get to that, we had you and Serenity on the last time you were here to promote a tag match. For those who didn’t see it, Kevin and Serenity won that match too.
Kevin: Right again, Mike. Pretty much just like we said. I know the match was billed as Strange Bedfellows, but that applied more to our opponents than us. We still got the job done, and showed how effective we are when the bell rings as a team.
Michael: Now wait, there was some friction that I saw. I know you and Talia particularly were getting onto Serenity for some issues she was having and–
Kevin: You’re right. But here’s the deal. People disagree sometimes. Friends argue. Couples argue. Family argues. What matters is what comes out of those disagreements. Did the right conclusion come about? Yes. Is everything smooth now? Absolutely. If it wasn’t, things wouldn’t have gone as smoothly as they did that night and continue to do so. Why? Because we’re professionals when it comes to business in an Uprising ring. The goal then and always has been to come out on top, and you’ll find we do it a vast majority of the time.
Michael: Fair enough, let’s talk about Eli then and your match tomorrow night.
Kevin: Sure. Here’s the deal. I got no issues with Eli. I’m actually a little surprised we haven’t run into each other by now away from the ring. We kinda run in similar circles with what he does on the side and the places I tend to be. But outside of the ring, I can’t say I’ve seen his act. I know he’s been in the company somewhere in the vicinity of six months, and he’s clearly impressed people enough to be given this chance. Not that it’s much of a chance considering he’s gonna be facing me one on one….and that tends to go very badly for anyone who does. Much less in the first defense of this title since I won it? Oh, that’s the equivalent of drawing a two which is a terrible card against an Ace.
Michael: Sounds pretty confident to me.
Kevin: Of course, I am, Mike. If you don’t believe in yourself, how can anyone else? It’s like I said. I got nothing against Eli. I’ve been watching his matches back since I saw the card. I’ve been doing some studying of what to expect and what he can bring to the table. Along with doing my usual media tour like here and on some of the YouTube wrestling podcasts. I’m more than ready for Eli tomorrow night at the Silver State Ballroom. The fact is I’m always ready. Nothing gets me more hyped than seeing my name on the top of a card, much less if I’m defending a title that means as much to me as the Uprising World Championship.
Michael: Make sure you catch that show tomorrow night, fans. Got any plans for the holidays coming up?
Kevin: You bet. I’m either going to go somewhere very warm and spend some time in the sun. Or head north and see about some skiing. I haven’t done that in a long while. Haven’t decided yet.
Michael: Thanks for joining me today, Kev. Good luck tomorrow night against Eli in your title defense.
Kevin: Appreciated but he’ll need magic to get past me.
The show then goes to a commercial for a local car dealership.
