Thunder Ministries HQ
Esme Thunder watched her husband pace himself back and forth he was beside himself, and while Esmeralda Thunder (nay Naught) had an uncanny skill of distracting him from his frustrations, be it through sheer psychology or her womanly wilds that every good wife knew, yet seeing the expression on her husband’s face, the veins bulging in his neck and the overall tenseness told her “this was not the time for any of that” for try as she might she would not be able to calm him down.
“They did this, to ME, THIS out of all the goddamn, motherfucking, cocksucking whoremongering options at their disposal those unwashed masses, those mouth breathing mother molesters, the never haves, never wills and never was’s of the society have banded together and put me in a DUMPSTER match! They want Don Tirri to put me in the trash! I AM THE FIRST EVER UPRISING CHAMPION, I BUILT THIS COMPANY WITHOUT ME...I went through all these matches I got out of the Terrordome without ending up in a coma and after weeks away when I am set to return at the great big event they have a chance to show gratitude for my sacrifices for all I did..and they want me in the trash!?””
He glared at her.
“I swear this has to be the deed of the hoofed fella with horns from downstairs trying to make my life difficult”
“I thought the devil was supposed to offer us temptations. And... while the idea of seeing one Don Tirri become literal trash is very appealing to my good self... no. You know, I defend these people sometimes, I kinda like to play the devil’s advocate...”
Luther glares at her.
“What? It’s a turn of phrase. But I have nothing on this occasion. You deserve so much better than this. Just... well, can you rant quietly? I don’t want the good people hearing their pastor emmitting such a diatribe, however warranted...”
The two exchange glances and a moment of silence until the big Dutchman falls to his knees opening his arms wide open and shouting out to the skies.
“Eli Eli Lama Sabachthani?!”
She arches a brow and he looks at her.
“What?! They don’t know aramaic, these are simple folks..”
She crosses her arms over her chest and scoff
“Still, a bit too rich, don’t cha think?”
He jumps up and glares at her with fire in his eyes.
“THEY ARE PUTTING ME IN A DUMPSTER MATCH AGAINST DON TIRRI, WHAT PRAY TELL WOULD BE SUITED REACTION TO A MAN WHO A LITTLE OVER A MONTH AGO WAS AT THE VERY MOUNTAINTOP OF THIS ORGANIZATION?!”
She purses her lips, he calms down a bit, lowering his voice but breathing heavily.
“They had so many good choices, strap match, ironman and cage..why did they have to choose this? Haven’t I been good and benevolent to them as a champion..this was a new chance. I did everything right, I made the best of my chance given to me..did something no one else had done before and now…”
“And now you are trash.”
She could literally see his face droop
“Yes, now I am seen as trash. Thank you for clarifying that.”
She lets out a little smile.
“By who, exactly? The fans? The losers who live in their mother’s basements, fapping to Tolson’s swimsuit photos because they can’t get a real woman?”
“What is... fapping?”
“Never mind that. Just because you go out there as a company man, saying you do this all for the fans... that’s a sack of crap and you know it. Why do you care what a bunch of Bobby Buttfucks from Bumblefuck, Nowhere think? Did... did you talk so much garbage about the fans that you actually started to BELIEVE it or something?!”
She looks genuinely amused as she stares at him, a goofy grin on her face.
He stammers a bit
“I um, no I didn’t but..you see um, well actually...THEY WERE NOT SUPPOSED TO SEE THROUGH THAT SHIT! THESE PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS Esme, why would they be smart on my intentions..I got that title and--”
She cut him off with a wide smirk.
“Yup that’s right sweetie, you DID get that title and even if Brad Jackson would fire you tomorrow, which he won’t because he is known as the dark horse not the dark horse’s ass! Your name would forever be in the foundation of this wrestling company. Have you considered the fact that while the fans may have voted for this..maybe they just want you to dump Tirri in the trash?”
He was about to argue, then seemed to ponder it for a few moments.
“..well why would they put me in a match like this then?!”
She had a sneaky smirk across her face.
“..because those idiots, nimrods and nimcampoops all are smart enough to know that if there is one person on the roster who can put Tirri in the dumpster, that’s you..”
He seems confused.
“Yeah but..I’m the first champion I’m above this and..”
She stopped him mid complain.
“Luther Marcellus Thunder! This man insulted me, repeatedly, on social media and beat me in that place up north..this may just be your chance to sack up and and protect my honour..don’t you want to do that?”
He seems taken back by this turn of events.
“Esme, my love of course I do but this isn’t..”
“Well what’s the problem then?! Blame the fans all you want, claim this to be whatever work of the devil but Luther, my sweet husband I see this as a divine opportunity for you to right a wrong.Don Tirri won’t care if he dives into a dumpster he’s probably done it before once or twice. So if you do it he won’t care it’s not his first time, however..”
She got up, walking to him and gently pulled him up.
“I would greatly appreciate it, so be a dear and do this, hmm? For me? When have I EVER asked you a thing..maybe I’ll even reward you, do that thing with the icecubes you like and..”
He seems to be breathless unable to speak, looking almost like a human version of the Tex Avery’s Big bad wolf who sees Little Red Riding Hood. She manages to rope him around her finger again and smiles.
“Come on, surely you can do this..last person who threatened me, Colleen Harmon..remember what you did to her or Chris Strike..huh? This isn’t a big deal..do it Luther, swallow your pride, go slumming and get me some revenge, pretty please?”
He nodded slowly almost like in a trance before speaking up.
“I don’t want you there Esme, I don’t want anything to go wrong, for him to throw you in there..or for you to see me ending up in that dumpster. Promise me you will stay away..this is going to be a one time, special occasion but this is not the man I want to be..”
She nodded, ruffling his hair.
“We’ll see how you do and how it goes afterwards, then we’ll discuss if you should continue it Luthie..who knows maybe you’ll learn to like it again. Just, stick to your street clothes, no good gear for a match like this, we might have to get rid of them anyway..”
He nodded.
“Sure, go and get me some.. “
She smiled at him but what he didn’t see was her smile getting wider.
“Oh and Esme?”
“Yes Luthie?”
“Look through some of my old stuff..something that, um, still fits.”
He realized that his physique had changed over the years obviously but Esme just smiled.
“I’m sure you will be a sight to behold..I mean you are going to be seen next to proverbial trash.”
“You talking about Don Tirri or the match?”
She chose it wiser not to respond.
On Camera
We are treated to a view of a dark room, silence surrounds us and when a single click turns on a light we see a seated man in a suit, even if we see just half of him because of the way the light was positioned it was clear that the person in question was now the former UPRISING Champion Luther Thunder the light seemed to actually cut him in half. Slowly the camera rides up to him and we hear him speak, that low yet calm tone so used to being heard from the big man.
Luther Thunder:
I will be the first person to admit that I have not always been the best example on how one should behave or conduct themselves or any form of business, I am human enough to admit that I have made some very costly mistakes over the years as well however I have learned from those mistakes and have worked hard for a long time to reconcile with my past, using a lot of my time and energy to become a better man, competitor and a person. I have been in all kinds of promotions from the big money successful enterprises to small time places just starting up and regardless of the paygrade, attendance, location or any other trivial thing I have always given every single one of my places of employment the very best. That is why I seem to always land on my feet when it comes to finding a place to work my craft, I am open-minded when it comes to projects so when I was approached to sign my name on a contract to join this place in Reno,Nevada of all places. I accepted, without hesitation. Because for someone who has been in this business for over 13 years now not everyone is a seeked out name for a company especially starting up. As far as why I was approached to be part of UPRISING: was it my work rate? My reputation? My accolades? I do not know, nor does it matter. What matters is that I was amongst the first to sign my name on the dotted line and to me that is something more than a mere signature that is a guarantee that whoever signs me to their roster gets my best and I must have done something right over the years since I still get approached by possible places so I was not coerced or forced by any means to be part of this place.
His eyes seem focused and while the tone is calm there is something telling under it, straining it a bit.
Luther Thunder:
On the very first night here, the first ever show of Revolution, I told my fellow competitors that UPRISING would be a place where we could all start anew, create something better for ourselves and make this place the best possible place that we possibly could going forward. I encouraged them to leave past baggage and issues from elsewhere behind them and just to do their best that this was the opportunity which we had all been given a chance that made us equal and with time it would be shown what each of us would do with that opportunity. Well as the record books show i went on to become the first ever UPRISING Champion, many of those who started together with me are now moved on elsewhere there is some new faces joined in since then and even from the new faces there are people who have since faded away to what one can only hope is more suitable and better for them. I however was sincere with those words to my peers and the fans alike. I have gotten so much from this business over the years, from fans, peers and employers alike that I wanted to give something back to you all so winning that championship cemented my name to the very foundation of this place. It made me synonymous not just that championship but this whole organization because before myself there was no champion here. I was and forever will be the first. We are inseparable without me that championship would not be what it is and I did it all for you people. I gave you a chance just like I was given one, a chance to be better, to rise above petty hatred and mockery and mere boos and jeers..
Taking a moment to figure out what he wants to say Luther’s eyes get more of a somber look to them.
Luther Thunder:
I fought against everyone that was put in front of me, there has been no instance where my name has been on the show card and you had not been able to guarantee that whatever I match I was in was well worth the price of admission and a match to remember for all involved. I even went through the hell that was the Terrordome, a match that put two of the final participants in a coma. So considering that I got out of that match on my own and losing “just” the championship could be considered a moral victory on it’s own. Wins and losses can happen and do happen in this business on any given night and I lost that night and that is that. However since then I have not had a match in UPRISING and when it was announced that I would return UPRISING at Total Anarchy against Don Tirri in a match that the fans would get to pick the stipulation in. I had faith in you all, I was sure that given my honesty, my dedication and all that I had given for you and your entertainment would assure a worthy return against the man who faced me at the finals of the tournament that crowned our first UPRISING Champion. I am no stranger when it comes to eccentric matches from over the years, I’ve been part of some very brutal and violent matches which the Terrordome was just the latest encounter of I’ve been in buried alive matches, been put in the ground and been the one putting people to the ground so I know exactly what it means depending what end of the shovel you are. I’ve ended matches in such a way that my opponents has been forced to retire so not only have I ended streaks and matches I have ended careers..as is well documented I am far from an angel or a saint in the ring, I am capable of a lot. So when the fans get four options I put my trust in the fact that you would pick not just a fitting result but a worthy result of that vote considering just who are there and what we meant to the start of this company and what have we done to this great place since it’s doors opened.
He puts his palms together as if to calm himself, pressing them closed. His voice now something less calm and low but clearly more of a deeper borderline growl.
Luther Thunder:
So when the outcome is not the Ironman match, not a Strap match nor a Cage match but A dumpster match. It proved a point for me. It proved to me that I had overestimated you, the fans and your ability to understand just what has been created and put together in front of you. I went through all those matches, I stayed in this place when so many left, I was the one who stood up for all of you and you chose this as my return to UPRISING. You might have done this as “prank” or a “joke” of some sort, maybe it was even your idea of the people involved. There are those of you who have booed me since day one and not everyone likes everyone. I am sure there are those amongst you who don’t care for Don Tirri and figured putting him in a match like this is fitting since you see him as someone who belongs in the gutter, but you have put ME there with him. You have put the first Uprising Champion in this travesty of a match and whether the voting result says more of us who are competing in the match or those of you who voted at the end of the day: you have disrespected the very legacy of this place. So let me express my disappointment in all of you and my disappointment in believing that you would have been better than this. Words like Revolution or Uprising are not supposed to be just some brand words thrown around to seem edgy; they have a meaning and purpose. Revolution is supposed to change the way things are and uprising is usually seen as a stand for those who have been downtrodden and treated badly. These are not just overly romanticized views and speeches but real things and you are dragging those to the dirt and stomping on them with such choices as the one you have made, I hope that you are proud of yourselves.
He opens up his palms laying those hands on the armrests of his chair.
Luther Thunder:
However, being the professional I am, I am honoring my contract and I am competing in the stipulated match that the fans have chosen. I am not the kind of man who shy’s away from something like this as stated before: I’ve done worse. That being said I do not want my wife Esme Thunder anywhere in this match, not because I am worried of her safety but since you have shown your true colours I don’t think you deserve to have my beautiful, darling wife anywhere near this travesty of a match. I don’t want her to be subjected to anything like this if I can avoid it and to be honest I do not want her to see just what I am capable of in this match. Don Tirri has made it very clear that what he wants to face is the Luther of “old” the callous monster that did not care what he did to his opponents, the man who’s name next yours would make the opponents second guess their career choices. Well if the fans believe I should participate in a Dumpster Match, maybe I don’t have to worry too much of how I conduct myself, how I look or act because clearly they don’t either. This match won’t rid this company or business of me, facing Tirri, Knox, whoever you got in store won’t do it send in whoever just don’t send anyone you are hoping to come back. So Tirri, congratulations you’ll get your wish, just like the fans got theirs. Me and just me alone and a Luther I was hoping never to bring back in front of the world. Of course whatever happens in this match, to Don Tirri or anyone else, staff, fan or peer won’t be on my hands. It will be on yours the consequences of enabling this for advocating and promoting this. I’ll be there at Total Anarchy and I’m returning to UPRISING in a Dumpster match, but it’s all of you who are trash.
Without as much a word he stands up and walks off and we cut to static.
