WHAT BRINGS YOU TO UPRISING?
Personally recruited by the unseen owner of the company while UPRISING was starting to form, Kenzie Rydell initially declined the offer with the caveat that she would consider it. Months later, UPRISING got their answer when she appeared in the audience for REVOLUTION S01/E05 and jumped the barricade to attack Matt Knox! Immediately after, she met with Jax backstage to sign the contract that's already been written for her months in advance. Can she live up to that hype?
PERSONALITY OVERVIEW: Kenzie considers herself inspirational, but hardly anyone else does. Motivational quotes, wellness techniques, pseudoscience (such as healing crystals), and self-help rheterics help her stay confident while she's otherwise severely insecure.
STRENGTHS:
- willpower
- long bouts of manufactured confidence
WEAKNESSES:
- insecurity — behind her outward positivity, she's deeply unsure about herself.
- naiveté — she has a tendency to want to see the best in people. This can backfire.
- social sensitivity — self-explanatory.
- brief bouts of depression — self-explanatory.
- recovering alcoholic — While she's been sober for nearly two years, it's a fight she struggles with to this day.
ALIGNMENT: Neutral Evil.
WHY THEY'D BE CHEERED: At her core, Kenzie is an Army brat underdog who loves wrestling with all her heart. She's not raunchy or outwardly hateful. She tries not to curse, too. This helps her reach a special connection with young girls and boys, especially. Not to mention her inspirational vibes do occasionally have the tendency to truly be inspirational for those who need to hear it.
WHY THEY'D BE BOOED: She's often called out for her "fake positivity," repeatedly using typically happy sayings to insult and degrade her naysayers in an obnoxious holier than thou way. A backstabber and a cheater, she'll smile while she's screwing you over and then claim a motivational quote will make it all justified.
REASONS TO COMPETE:
- STEPPING STONE: Your character sees wrestling as a gateway to bigger and better things for them within their career, such as acting or modelling; something else within the public eye.
- PASSION: All your character has ever wanted to do is wrestle. It's in their blood; their DNA. They eat, breathe and live this sport and for them it's a way of life.
ATTITUDE TOWARDS TEAMWORK:
- TOTAL TEAM PLAYER: Your character will team with anyone, even if they don't share a common interest or goal. Appreciates the benefits of friends and allies.
TENDENCY TO CHEAT:
- Often
THEME SONG: 'Waste My Hate' – Icon For Hire
WRESTLING EXPERIENCE: Since 2016.
WRESTLING STYLE:
- THE LUCHA: Relies on superb speed and agility, as well as a chain wrestling form of free fighting that wows the audience and bamboozles their opponent. Impressive displays of acrobatics render the need for power and force obsolete.
- THE AERIALIST: Relies on speed and aerial prowess to overwhelm their foes. What they lack in size and brute strength, they make up for in agility and accuracy.
- THE STRONG STYLIST: Relies on hard-hitting (often stiff) moves and sharp strikes. Whether it's punches, chops, kicks, throws or submission holds, this fighter wants to hit hard, hit fast, and hurt their foes.
MATCH TENDENCIES:
While the majority of this is explained in the in-ring strengths and weaknesses section, Kenzie will smile from time to time when she's in control or is in a rather desperate spot. In other words, she'll grin from ear to ear when she cheats or she's trying to get in the head of her opponent, convincing them and herself that she can win. It's rather unnerving, but it serves the purpose of trying to lift her spirits. There are times when her mask will slip and she'll show true frustration against certain hard to defeat opponents, but this is rare and should be treated like a significant development.
She usually targets a body part, even focusing her aerial offense on one singular limb in an attempt to gain the advantage.
Sometimes Kenzie will talk to the referee, the ringside crew, or members of the crowd when the opponent's down, too. She'll tell them a condescending inspirational quote or belief that has something to do with the situation, spurring on boos from the audience. For example, she might tell the referee Neil Rana that he's doing a great job in attempt to butter him up, or that the boss is watching, wordlessly implying Stefanie Delano should count faster on Kenzie's behalf to get in their good graces.
BACKSTAGE TENDENCIES: Kenzie can usually be found stretching, reciting positive affirmations in the backstage bathroom mirror, or getting to know members of the backstage crew. On rare special occasions, she'll bring her flute to the show. Playing the instrument can relax her, ease her anxiety, and regulate her emotions. While she's good at playing the woodwind, others around the backstage area might not like the sound. So yes. For the most part, she is friendly. Just sometimes that friendly exterior can annoy others.
FIGHT-ENDING STYLE:
- OUT-WRESTLING: Beats the opponent using their preferred wrestling style.
- CEREBRAL: Overcomes the opposition through intelligence, ingenuity and superior ring psychology.
IN-RING STRENGTHS:
- THE GUARDIAN - The high-flying Muay Thai luchadora uses the art of eight limbs to deliver a combination of fists, elbows, knees, and shins to pummel her opponents at close-range. At a distance, she relies on aerial maneuvers. Instead of prioritizing sheer muscle power, Kenzie implements kinetic efficiency and rotational momentum to do the most damage.
- THE DEFENDER - Advanced footwork techniques and quick reflexes are pivotal to avoid attacks and outmaneuver her opponents to dominate them over time. Parkour adds to her mobility. The southpaw capitalizes on momentum even further, bounce-stepping to change directions quicker and cover more distance, at the cost of expending more energy.
- THE LUMINARY - In the closing moments of a match, Kenzie taunts the crowd into a frenzy. If she can successfully draw their ire, she channels their energy into a temporary adrenaline rush once per match. An adrenaline rush is a heightened state of physical and mental alertness which could turn the tide of the matchup in Kenzie's favor, but the effects are short-lived. If the opponent outlasts this, Kenzie is at a major disadvantage.
- THE BEACON - The adverse effects of doubt aren't such a problem after a conversation with someone supportive earlier in the night. When accompanied by any tag team partner(s) or a manager, that helps too.
IN-RING WEAKNESSES:
- THE MIGHTY DEFEATIST - In large-scale matches (such as pay-per-views/supershows or championship opportunities), self-doubt occasionally takes a visual toll towards the end of the bout. This might take the form of hesitation, frustration, a decrease in precision, etc. This is when an adrenaline rush is the most beneficial.
- THE GLASS CANNON - While her evasion techniques might be a treat for the crowd, it’s a necessity. Kenzie is a fragile speedster, so she needs to rely on advanced footwork techniques and quick reflexes to stay in the match. Otherwise, getting hit with one big move could mean her night is over instantly.
- THE SERAPH - Despite this fragility, Kenzie's been known to perform high-risk aerial maneuvers. If unsuccessful, the opponent could take advantage. She panders the crowd often too, taunting to get them involved to feed on their energy, which leaves her vulnerable.
- THE FEATHERWEIGHT - She might lift lighter opponents from time to time, but she mainly relies on non-lifting maneuvers and attacks that can work on every opponent instead.
